Charlie Harris has released new track following the success of Digital Dust (Side A) and Digital Dust (Side B) which featured the evocative singles “Charlie No Face” and “Catching Rainbows”. The new track is his most deeply personal song yet: “When You Smiled”.
Born from profound grief and an enduring love that never fades, “When You Smiled” is a heartfelt tribute to those we’ve lost but carry with us always. Inspired by the devastating losses of 2024, including his mother-in-law and, just months later, his own mother, Charlie crafts a melody that is both sorrowful and beautifully poignant.
“The stars don’t shine; they only reflect the light.” This powerful lyric serves as the song’s emotional core, reminding us that the ones we lose never truly leave—they live on in the love, memories, and quiet moments they’ve left behind.
Reflecting on the song’s origins, Charlie Harris comments
“2024 was an incredibly difficult year for me and my family. Losing so many loved ones—especially my mother-in-law, who had been part of our home for 25 years—was heartbreaking. I remember watching my wife sip her morning coffee, lost in thought, and knowing she was thinking of her mother, her best friend.”
“That moment planted the seed for this song. But I never imagined that just three months later, I’d lose my own mother to cancer as well. The grief was overwhelming, but in that pain, I found a deep appreciation for the love we shared and the time we had. That’s what this song is about.”
