Johannesburg-born singer-songwriter Charlie Harris released his long-awaited debut album, Digital Dust (Side A) on the 14th September.
Known for his deeply authentic performances and evocative storytelling, Charlie’s music blends folk rock with a genre-defying sound that feels both familiar and refreshing. Accompanied by his band, Keep Guessing, Charlie’s live shows are intimate, drawing listeners in with raw, emotional energy.
After years of crafting hundreds of songs, Charlie’s decision to move forward with Digital Dust came from a realization: waiting for the “perfect” time to release his music might mean never releasing it at all.
This urgency and spontaneity have infused the album with a sense of living in the moment—capturing the raw emotions of the present, free from overthinking and hesitation.
“Digital Dust (Side A) is not about sending a singular message,” explains Charlie. “It’s about embracing the now acknowledging that we all face struggles, but that the present is ours to enjoy.” The album invites listeners to let loose, find their own vibe, and live in the moment.
The journey to the album began in late 2023 when Charlie Harris connected with producer Robin Walsh
From a pool of over 100 songs, the duo meticulously selected 19 tracks, choosing the ones that had resonated most with audiences and felt the most personal. The songs were split into two albums — Digital Dust (Side A) and Side B — offering a nostalgic nod to vinyl LPs with their dual-sided format.
Recorded in a collaborative, organic process, Charlie laid down the core acoustic guitar and vocal tracks, with the addition of a drummer and bassist bringing raw energy to the songs. Robin Walsh contributed guitars, organ, and even convinced his girlfriend to lend her voice to the backing vocals. The result is a dynamic album that captures the essence of a real band in motion.
Digital Dust (Side A) is more than an album—it’s a musical statement of living boldly and embracing the imperfect beauty of life. With a third album already in the works for 2025, Charlie Harris’s journey is just beginning.
