South African rapper Buzzi Lee is shaking things up once again with her unapologetic new single ‘Bao Jela’ – a Spitori-fuelled anthem about betrayal, confidence, and street-level power dynamics.
Produced by acclaimed hitmaker MashBeatz, the track channels Buzzi Lee’s signature style: hard-hitting bars, catchy hooks, and an unshakable attitude.
In Pretoria township slang, ‘bao jela’ refers to someone being cheated on—and this time, Buzzi Lee is the one throwing shade, not catching it.
She calls out a man who proudly parades a woman as his ‘wife’, only to expose her infidelity. The track is bold and confrontational, packed with Buzzi Lee’s lyrical punches and flexes like “nna ka dema” (I’m boastful), solidifying her presence as one of hip hop’s most fearless voices.
Buzzi Lee’s journey into music wasn’t planned
She first stepped into the booth by chance, after tagging along to a studio session with friends. What started as a spontaneous moment quickly turned into a calling—and she’s been on the rise ever since, blending street culture, sharp lyricism, and a striking visual identity.
Fresh off winning Best Collaboration at the Urban Music Awards and landing a spot in Metro FM’s 25 Song of the Year list for her feature on ‘Skuta Baba Remix’ alongside Kwesta and Cassper Nyovest, Buzzi Lee’s momentum is undeniable.
Her style is raw, feminine, and deeply rooted in the culture of her hometown, Atteridgeville. From her bold fashion to her commanding presence on a beat, Buzzi Lee’s confidence speaks as loudly as her lyrics—and it’s resonating far beyond her city.
With ‘Bao Jela’, she proves yet again that she’s not just riding the beat – she’s running the game.
