South African trio BlackByrd returns with their brand-new single, “Home” – a heartfelt track that dives deep into the feeling of belonging, connection, and what it truly means when someone becomes your safe space.
With a record-breaking run of success, BlackByrd has earned their place as one of South Africa’s most celebrated female acts, having already captured two SAMA’s (South African Music Awards), and their debut album “Strong” produced an impressive eight number-one singles and reached gold status.
Since relaunching in 2024 with the chart-topping single “Didn’t I,” which surpassed 1 million YouTube streams, the trio has continued to evolve, blending country-pop roots with authentic, heartfelt storytelling.
Described by BlackByrd as one of their most challenging songs to write, “Home” has taken on many shapes and forms since its first demo.
“Writing the story about the person who means the world to you, the person you love dearly, the person who ultimately feels like your person, your home, was truly challenging,” shares Tarryn Lamb. “How do you even put together the right words that truly measure up to those feelings that are so close to home? This is the closest we got to that place – perfectly imperfect, but just for you.”
Produced by Loki Rothman, who the group says “truly brought this record ‘home’ for us,” the single evolved after months of experimentation and collaboration, including a pivotal session with musician and songwriter Jacob Swan. “We asked him to take a swing at it, and within a couple of minutes, he opened up a fresh new perspective on how we could continue writing it.”
With “Home,” BlackByrd wanted to lean further into storytelling and vulnerability
“We really wanted to take a deeper step in our storytelling by sharing more of our hearts with our audience,” they say. At its core, this single is about more than a place – it’s about the people and moments that ground us. “Home, the feeling, the refuge, the space where you can truly be yourself. The place where the world slows down and the noise of life fades away. Where the memories are made, where your comfort in the familiar finds safety in the intangible.”
The release comes at a significant time for BlackByrd. “Releasing this song, at this time, for us as a band, truly feels like life imitating art, and it couldn’t have come at a better time,” they explain. “It has been just over a year of us rebuilding together, and finally, we feel like we’re finding our feet.”
“Home” is now available on Spotify and all other digital platforms.
