Great news! Yndian Mynah have released a new single, “Designasaurs”. The track is taken from their upcoming album due for release in mid 2021.
“Designasaurs” marks the first release for Yndian Mynah since their breakout album Velvet Youth in 2019. What started off as a simple polyrhythm guitar riff, quickly evolved into a carefully thought out and technical six minute musical journey. Recorded and produced by the band themselves, the track was sent for mastering to Brad Boatright.

The song was written after some serious inspiration of new music, and travelling overseas together as a band to Spain and Portugal, James the guitarist was obsessed with the new Tool Album and was researching them when he found out that the guitarist, Adam Jones, used to build the sets and makeup design for the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.

“The rest of the band wasn’t so convinced about Tool, but have been massive fans of Jurassic Park, so it was kind of like finding a medium ground of something beautiful together, which is pretty much what we do when we write music, we designed something around what we love, given that we are not afraid to share where the influences come from.”
“It’s free and kind of a brotherhood, where everything that inspires us is a respectful place. We thought of calling this our new offering because embracing these new journeys after a whole album together is how we want to redefine ourselves in the future. Pushing new boundaries, and taking from anything and everything that means something to us.”Â
Steering away from conventional rock, Yndian Mynah is not bound by language or genre, and focuses on creating music that is left wide open for personal interpretation.
Listeners can expect dynamic guitar-driven riffs and explosive drumming led by spontaneous structural changes, with a tendency for heavy breakdowns and momentary euphoria.
The single is paired with a nostalgic music video featuring a unique montage of beautiful moving & still images including photographs from band member Kenan’s personal archive premiering on the 25th September @ 19h00 on World Has Post Rock.Â
It’s great to hear some refreshing music coming out of South Africa in 2020 (even though it has been a shitty year for many of us). I’m looking forward to checking these okes out again (when they play a show in the 012).
I’m also looking forward to hearing the rest of their upcoming album in 2021. “Designasaurs” is a sign of good things coming our way from Yndian Mynah this year and next year.
