The Color Blew chart a fresh course with their latest single and video, “Lily”. Renowned for their gripping guitar hooks and lyrical intensity, the South African quartet trade some of their indie edge for a modern alt-country rock warmth – blending twang and texture in a way that feels both unexpected and familiar.
The spark came to lead guitarist Timothy Lotter at a low point in his life. “This song came about when I was at my absolute lowest,” he recalls. “It’s a reminder that good things can find you – if you’re open to them. I was watching videos about Nashville chicken when I wrote the riff, so I wanted it to feel like comfort food for the soul.”
That riff, both nostalgic and surprising, intertwines with Armando Santos’s steady, heartbeat drums. “For me, the song radiates a powerful message: it is what it is—slow, steady, and stronger when standing alone.”
Over that foundation, Liaan Horton’s vocals walk the line between tenderness and grit, telling the story of two people clinging to one last chance at connection. As he explains, “When something with so much potential becomes damaged by its surroundings, one moment can’t fix it—but maybe it can make it bearable, just for one night.”

More info about The Color Blew
Since forming in 2014, The Color Blew – Liaan Horton (vocals, rhythm guitar), Marius Cronje (bass), Timothy Lotter (lead guitar), and Armando Santos (drums)—have refused to sit still creatively. From the raw grit of “The Canvas” to the rhythmic twists of “Light Switch” and their internationally recognised cover of “Under Pressure”, the band’s evolution has been constant.
Their recent singles “Love in Space”, “Discount Hearts”, and “Leave” hinted at deeper emotional terrain. With “Lily”, they dive further—creating an unflinching yet comforting space where vulnerability becomes strength.
With over 65 years of combined experience, The Color Blew prove once again that stepping outside the comfort zone can uncover new emotional depths—and connect more powerfully than ever before.
