It is with heavy hearts that the organisers of CottonFest have announced the end of the festival.
Shareholder Disputes Lead to CottonFest Closure
Following the initial announcement of the 2026 festival on social media earlier this year, differences among current shareholders created disputes that could not be resolved.
After careful internal review, it became clear that the parties no longer share the same long-term vision. This divergence placed strain on operations and made it increasingly challenging to continue CottonFest in a manner that upholds the standards and vision set by its founder, Riky Rick.

A Celebration of Creativity and Community
“CottonFest has always been rooted in creativity, community, and cultural celebration, focused on providing a platform for youth to shine,” said CottonFest owner and organiser Bianca Naidoo.
“While we are proud of what the festival has achieved and deeply grateful for the support from fans, partners, and artists over the years, the differences in vision among the parties made it clear that concluding this chapter is the most realistic path forward.”
The decision was made after careful consideration and in the best interest of staff, collaborators, and the broader community that has supported the festival since its inception over seven years ago.
Continuing Riky Rick’s Legacy Through the Creative Programme
Festival founder Riky Rick’s partner, Bianca Naidoo, alongside the Makhado family, expressed appreciation for everyone who contributed to CottonFest’s growth and its impact on South Africa’s arts and entertainment landscape. Although the festival will no longer continue under its current structure, the Creative Programme, launched in 2025, will carry forward initiatives to support and celebrate young talent throughout the year. The team remains optimistic about future projects that foster creative expression in new and meaningful ways.
