Oooth is fronted by Jason Oosthuizen, who started playing drums at the age of four, and since then has gone on to play in some of the best bands to come out of South Africa. Oooth‘s debut single, “Hands Under The Table” was released in September 2018.

Here are 10 things that you might not have known about Jason Oosthuizen

    1. He hates flying, but he has to do it often.

    2. He used to be a cyclist.

    3. He’s launching his drum company in the USA in January 2019.

    4. He wrote the first song for Oooth when he was living in Los Angeles.

    5. His dad was a full-time drummer.

    6. He only has Standard 6 (Grade 8 for those of you who don’t what Standards are)

    7. He has been married for a year and a half.

    8. He doesn’t really have a clue what he’s doing being a frontman in Oooth.

    9. He has worked a day job once, but he left at 11 AM on his first day.

    10. He has played with Van Coke Kartel, The Narrow, The Black Cat Bones, Fokofpolisiekar, Albert Frost, Die Heuwels Fantasties and Jack Parow in the past.

How did Oooth thing come about?

In 2018 Jason decided to broaden his musical horizons to singer/songwriter position by replacing the drumsticks with a Gibson electric guitar and mic as frontman of Oooth. For Oooth, Jason has written, recorded and produced most aspects of the project himself.

Who Cares What You Think. was written and recorded by Jason Oosthuizen over the last eight months. It was recorded with Pete Hanmer at Foxglove Studios in Alberton, Gauteng.

Inspired to push himself out of his comfort zone, Jason decided to challenge himself and his music career by writing and recording a full solo record. “It must be one of the most scary antics I’ve tried and I’m still not 100% sure I can pull it off, but I’m gonna try my best and see what happens.” says Jason

He adds “I think too many people don’t do things they want to do because they scared of what others will think of them. I just think who cares what people think, and just do it in anyway.”

Thanks to Jason Oosthuizen for giving us some inside info about himself. I wish him all of the best with Oooth and his future musical endeavors.

I cranked up Who Cares What You Think. this morning on Spotify and I have to admit that it’s something that SA Music has been lacking lately. It’s the fast paced rock ‘n roll that a lot of you have been craving all year.

Oooth will be launching their debut album on 26 November at Rivonia Barnyard in Johannesburg. Entrance is FREE. Book your spot to attend today!
