Johannesburg-based metallic hardcore band Lower Hollow have unleashed their brand-new single “Social Disease,” the first track from their upcoming album Threnody: Songs of Perseverance.
Released via Mongrel Records, the single marks a bold new era for the band as they reimagine their acclaimed 2024 release Threnody: Songs of Fortitude.
A New Chapter for Lower Hollow
Formed in 2022, Lower Hollow quickly became a force in South Africa’s heavy music scene. Known for their aggressive yet melodic style, the band combines metallic hardcore ferocity with atmospheric and heartfelt songwriting.
With two full-length albums and relentless touring, they’ve built a reputation for pushing boundaries in modern hardcore.
From Fortitude to Perseverance
Threnody: Songs of Perseverance isn’t just a re-release—it’s a complete reinvention. After a lineup change earlier this year, Lower Hollow introduced new vocalist Kathryn Georgina, shifting from a male-fronted to a female-fronted sound. To capture the band’s current live intensity, the entire album was re-recorded and fully remastered.
“It was 8 months after Threnody: Songs of Fortitude dropped when our vocalist left to focus on family,” the band explains. “Touring forced us to adapt quickly, and Kathryn became our new voice. Naturally, the sound shifted. Re-recording the songs allowed us to showcase the evolution while still honouring the original intent.”
The new single, “Social Disease,” delivers everything fans love about Lower Hollow: blistering riffs, raw intensity, and melodic depth. With its release, the band officially launches the Threnody: Songs of Perseverance era, giving both longtime fans and new listeners a chance to experience their most authentic sound yet.
With this release, Lower Hollow joins the global wave of metallic hardcore acts reinventing themselves in bold ways. For fans of bands like Converge, Code Orange, and Knocked Loose, Threnody: Songs of Perseverance positions the Johannesburg act as one of the most exciting heavy bands to watch from South Africa.
