South African singer-songwriter Dylan Tori has released his deeply personal new single, “Wish You Were Here”. Blending soulful Americana, country, and blues-rock textures, the song explores memory, love, and the ache of absence, telling the story of missing those we love most.
Produced and recorded by Mark Beling, “Wish You Were Here” was written in the wake of family bereavement. Originally conceived as a love song, it evolved into Dylan’s most emotionally candid composition to date.

His warm, resonant vocals convey snapshots of everyday life, the quiet longing for one more conversation, and the comfort – and wound – of memory.
Musically, “Wish You Were Here” combines acoustic instrumentation with soulful arrangements and alt-rock sensibilities. Fingerpicked guitar, subtle pedal steel, and restrained percussion create an intimate sonic space that allows the lyrics to breathe. The track blends country, bluegrass, and alt-rock influences, producing a sound that is both timeless and contemporary.
A Tribute to His Father
Dylan dedicates “Wish You Were Here” to his late father, Clifton Pretorius, who passed away in May 2025. The track was his father’s favourite from Dylan’s forthcoming album and is released as a heartfelt tribute.
“‘Wish You Were Here’ was born from memory, love and loss,” Dylan shares. “All of my emotions – losing my grandmother and friends along the way – poured into this song. I dedicate this to my father, Clifton Pretorius. I love you, Dad. I wish you were here.”
He adds, “In this busy world, I hope ‘Wish You Were Here’ resonates deeply with listeners, especially those who have experienced loss. Life is precious, time is valuable, and relationships mean everything. Be kind, love deeply, laugh often, and make beautiful memories – so that when your time comes, those left behind will say, ‘I wish you were here.’”
