Breakout Afrobeats star Chayuta, affectionately known as the Afrobeats Princess, has unveiled her latest single, “Surrender” — a nostalgic yet modern love anthem that pays tribute to the innocence of old-school romance.
Produced by long-time collaborator DJ Jabs, the track blends youthful yearning with soulful storytelling, offering an emotional and melodically rich listening experience.
“Surrender was inspired by young love — the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ kind of story,” says Chayuta. “It’s about that deep connection you hope to find one day and how powerful it feels in the moment.”
More info about Chayuta
Born to a South African father (Former Bafana Bafana Captain, Aaron Mokoena) and a Ghanian mom. She grew up moving between both countries and cultures, a journey that continues to influence her artistry. Her sound is rooted in Afrobeats but borrows heavily from R&B, allowing her to explore and experiment vocally across genres.
“I don’t box myself in. My voice is my instrument, and I use it to tell stories, whether in Afrobeats, R&B, or something entirely new,” she explains.
Chayuta’s breakout moment came with her EP 17, released when she was just 18. Since then, she has collaborated with top-tier talent, including Nigerian super-producer Phantom (famed for Burna Boy’s “Ye”) on the singles “Drop”, “Yawa”, and “GPS”.
She also worked with the late R&B legend D’Wayne Wiggins (Tony! Toni! Toné!) on a special acoustic project, further cementing her versatility as an artist.
Citing Rihanna as her biggest influence — both musically and as a businesswoman — Chayuta has her sights set on the global stage. She dreams of collaborating with Tems, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Tyla, Usher, and DJ Maphorisa, a list that reflects her worldwide ambitions.
Following the release of “Surrender”, Chayuta will drop her new EP, From the Ashes, on 5 September 2025. The project promises exciting collaborations and an acoustic offering that showcases her vocal range in its rawest, most emotive form.
