More info about GAIN
GAIN is an acronym for Graskop Animals In Need and is based in Graskop, Mpumalanga. It was started by Carla Gibson and Elsabe Louw in 2016 but only registered as a NPO in February 2017. Their team includes members of the community who help them with fundraising. Through donations and volunteers, GAIN managed to build two catios and three large kennels, on private property, which is not ideal but it works. They cover a big area namely Graskop, Pilgrims Rest, Matabidi and Hazyview in Mpumalanga.
GAIN has a few projects they are currently running which includes a feeding program in their local rural community, where they dispense dog and cat food to impoverished owners of animals.
This effort is done on a weekly basis but it does depend on food donations received from the public. Vaccinations of animals to prevent the spread of diseases, the dipping and deworming of animals in the community, providing education, blankets, food and water bowls where needed.
GAIN also rehabilitate animals and do adoptions finding forever homes across South Africa. They also rescue animals that have been trapped in snares that was set for remaining game in the areas.
Every second month GAIN have private vets come to Graskop to sterilize animals in the community, this is can only be paid for via fundraising and since 2017 GAIN have managed to sterilize 357 animals including a bunny with the help of these wonderful vets. At the moment GAIN has 59 animals and more animals are expected weekly to come in seeking help.
GAIN has a wish list for donations needed like building materials, paying of bills like electricity and water, medications, petrol and so much more. You can find out more by visiting their Facebook page or sending them an email on firstname.lastname@example.org or contact them via WhatsApp on 076 637 6993.
More info about SPEAR
SPEAR is an acronym for Stop Poaching Endangered African Rhinos. They are a South African based non-profit organization. Rhino poaching in the Kruger National Park (KNP) is a horrible reality.
Syndicates pay excessive amounts to poachers to engage in illegal activities. This occurs in the poverty pockets that exist in the areas neighbouring the park. SPEAR has many wonderful programs in place including a canine unit support and they do amazing work helping conserve nature.
The Kruger National Park’s specific canine division trains and deploys species-specific dogs to combat poaching. The dogs detect weapons at the entrance gates to the Park and track warm or cold spoor in pursuit of criminals.
Dogs are indispensable in anti-poaching operations. It is very costly to prepare and purpose-fit a dog. Many dog handlers are often immersed in dangerous situations. They literary take bullets to protect these valuable animals.
Training is only one aspect of the costs. The dogs need special harnesses and specialized nutrition.
Handlers use signal-bearing instruments and protective clothing. The canine division relies on donations for training, equipment and the acquisition of dogs.
If you need further information on SPEAR and the multiple projects they are running including their K9 unit, you can visit their website www.spearnpo.co.za or send Able Lugar an email email@example.com or Jan Engelbrecht on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Woofstock South Africa would love to raise funds and food for these two wonderful, hard-working NPOs. And this will be done by bringing music and people together to help animals and their humans purely for the love of animals and nature.
On 9 September 2023 the monthly Railways Market will be taking place at Mustangs where all ages can come browse and support local products from honey to home-made gifts to jewellery. GAIN will have a stall as well where the thrift-seekers can find hidden treasures. Food donations can also be made to GAIN/SPEAR during the day as well.
But wait, there’s more
