Emerging from the gritty, restless underground of 1990s Johannesburg, WONDERboom has achieved the near-impossible: three decades of evolution without ever losing their edge.
Guided by a “music first, ego last” philosophy, the self-styled WONDERbrothers have solidified their status as one of South Africa’s most enduring and electrifying rock institutions.

From the early, raw energy of anthems like “Never Ever” and “Jafta Rebel” to the infectious grooves of “Green Fever” and “It’s Great to Be Alive,” their discography serves as a living soundtrack for generations.
Across nine studio albums, the band has fearlessly fused rock with funk, punk, and Afro-dance, all while staying true to the heavy riffs that built their legacy.

Their reputation as a live powerhouse isn’t just talk; it’s history. Whether they were opening for Guns N’ Roses at Soccer City, taking silver at the Global Battle of the Bands in London, or clinching gold at the Silk Road Indie Music Festival in China, WONDERboom has consistently proven that South African rock travels.
With five SAMA nominations and a relentless touring schedule, they aren’t interested in living in the past. Their latest album, Hard Mode (co-produced with Matthew Fink), proves the focus is on momentum, not nostalgia.
Enter WONDERFEST: A Celebration of Survival
This isn’t just a concert. It is a full-volume explosion of sound and spirit. To mark their 30-year milestone, the band is hosting WONDERFEST, a night where past, present, and future collide.
The Line-up:
To honor every era of their journey, WONDERboom is joined by a curated selection of iconic artists:
- Springbok Nude Girls
- Sugardrive
- Straatligkinders
- Van Pletzen (featuring a mystery guest)
The main set will also feature special guest appearances from friends and long-time collaborators, including PLUM, Battery 9, The Graeme Watkins Project, and ChianoSky.
“Thirty years of WONDERboom and I’m done counting,” says frontman Cito. “We’re still here, still shaking our asses, still making songs that mean something to us. The live shows are still the drug… it still feels hazardous in the best possible way.”
