Cape Town’s glam-drenched punk provocateurs The Medicine Dolls are back with a wild new single and music video, “Tip The Waitress”.
Released through Just Music, the track delivers a snarling blast of punk-fuelled rock ’n roll that captures the band at their most unapologetic and chaotic.
Known for their gritty sound and theatrical edge, the band once again leans fully into their rebellious identity with a track that feels both raw and electrifying.

A Punk Riot From Cape Town
Formed in 2018, The Medicine Dolls are a four-piece rock outfit that has carved out a distinctive place in South Africa’s alternative music scene.
The band was founded by vocalist Gory Guttersnipe and bassist Bex Knickerless, later completing the lineup with guitarist Slava Nikonov and drummer Callula Jane Clay-Smith.
Together they’ve built a reputation for explosive performances that blend gritty rock ’n roll with theatrical flair. Their visuals and stage presence are soaked in dark glamour, sleaze, and rebellious energy, creating a sonic and visual identity that’s impossible to ignore.
Influences That Blend Punk, Camp and Chaos
The band’s sound draws inspiration from cult icons such as The Cramps and The B-52s, as well as the theatrical intensity of Nina Hagen and the modern attitude of Ashnikko.
That mix of influences creates a unique musical cocktail that fuses punk grit with playful theatricality and biting attitude.
The result is music that feels both retro and futuristic at the same time – equal parts trashy, glamorous and proudly unconventional.
A Wild Visual Experience
Accompanying the release of “Tip The Waitress” is a striking music video directed by internationally acclaimed South African filmmaker Ryan Kruger.
Kruger has gained global cult recognition for his bold, surreal filmmaking style, particularly through projects like the boundary-pushing feature film Fried Barry.
His work often blends grindhouse aesthetics, dark humour, and gritty storytelling, making him a natural fit for the band’s chaotic world.
In the video, Kruger amplifies the band’s already explosive energy, leaning into their signature blend of punk sleaze, theatrical glamour, and subversive imagery.
The result is a visually intense piece that pushes The Medicine Dolls’ aesthetic into even bolder territory.

The Medicine Dolls Are Continuing to Shake Up the Alternative Scene
“Tip The Waitress” was recorded at Atomic Studios in Cape Town alongside the band’s long-time collaborator and producer Matthew Fink.
The release reinforces The Medicine Dolls’ reputation as one of the most exciting and visually distinctive underground rock acts to emerge from South Africa’s alternative scene in recent years.
With their latest release, the band continues to embrace everything that makes their sound unique – loud guitars, rebellious spirit, and a fearless commitment to their twisted rock ’n roll universe.
Turn it up and let it get dirty.
