The Loose Ends are a three-piece psychedelic garage rock band straight outta Cape Town. They’re as likely to ponder on the passing of time and the celestial orgy that is space as they are to sing about systematic oppression or just being plain broke. Their music is alive with random possibilities and you never know where they’ll land up next. Jump on it!
This self-titled EP from Cape Town trio The Loose Ends is a collection of six tracks that were created to be played loudly. Taking frantic inspiration from the likes of John Dwyer, King Gizzard and a dash of 70’s psychedelia the trio burn through their tracks at breakneck speed. This is an incredibly tight and polished release, made all the more impressive by the fact that it is their first ever official release.
They’ve just release the 2nd single from the EP, “Rearrange”. It’s a ferocious beast, pounding at systematic oppression.
The Loose Ends vocalist and songwriter Sihle Mkhize explains “Rearrange”
“It’s pointing out that while there has been so called change within our society it is for the most part very superficial, and systematic oppression still runs deep within our “progressive“ society. It’s also a reminder to the oppressed to know their worth and not take shit from the powers that be.”
In my opinion, this is one of the most rocking tracks that I’ve heard by a South African artist / band in 2020. The track had me hooked from the second I pressed play. If you want to experience “Rearrange” for yourself listen to it HERE.
