17-year-old Cape Town-based singer-songwriter, Tayla Hunter has brought Lee Cole in to produce her brand-new single ‘What If’ – available now across all digital platforms.
More info about Tayla Hunter
Tayla Hunter has steadily been making a mark on the South African radio charts since January 2020 when she released her first single ‘Untouchable’. The single achieved recognition across South Africa, charting high on KFM’s Top 40 as well as various other radio stations and can still be heard daily. In amongst all the trials and tribulations COVID brought us, her 2nd single ‘Fool’ followed afterwards. 2021 was kicked off with the release of ‘Out of Mind’ which saw the cinematic masterpiece of a music video released not long afterwards.
Tayla has long been an admirer of Lee Cole who has over the past few years achieved incredible success with his own singles across radio in South Africa. Working with Lee was an absolute dream for this young talent.
Tayla Hunter comments on working with Lee Cole
“Working with Lee was a total breath of fresh air. From endless laughs in studio to complete concentration and perfect analysis, making sure every vocal was to his amazing standards. This is the first time I’m working with someone as big as Lee Cole. The fact that he took time and kindness to mentor me makes me so overwhelmed.”
“We recorded the song at Cosher Recording Studio with the help of Ben Howard (Heproducedit). Lee was amazing and flew down to Cape Town to spend 7 hours in studio with me perfecting this.”
Lee echoed the experience working with Tayla and if anyone has an eye for talent, he does
“Working with Tayla has been incredible. She’s got an amazing voice and most importantly she knows what she wants which made writing the song together with her so easy. When we tracked vocals during the official studio session, that’s when I believe the song really came to life.”
“It was such a fun and chilled-back experience. Tayla has a natural knack for delivering consistently great vocal takes which really created the magic needed to bring out the song’s potential. I really can’t wait to see how people are going to take to this record.”
As with any song, there’s a story behind how the written work came to fruition and for Tayla the song first developed early on in 2021.
Tayla Hunter recalls the process
“’What If’ came about when I started working with Lee Cole in January. We were working on some song writing and out came ‘What If’. The best part of this song is that it is totally left to any person’s interpretation and how the song affects their life in a personal capacity.”
Tayla Hunter is ending 2021 on a very high note as she releases what is arguably her strongest single to date with ‘What If’. What has been a dream to have Lee Cole produce her single, the next one is to collaborate with him.
Tayla Hunter comments on this
“My goal one day is to work on a colab with Lee. I am new to the industry and I’m hoping that continuing to learn from him will make that happen as I continue to grow as an artist.”
