The sibling duo of Ben and Gem Adey (Super AD) have burst onto the music scene with their debut single, “Joy”, a track that’s equal parts celebration and reflection on the highs and lows of love.
“We wanted to capture that bittersweet feeling,” explains Gem. “It’s amazing how love can be both exhilarating
and painful, but in the end, the joyful moments linger the most.”
The single began as a casual demo shared by Ben but soon took on a life of its own. Recognizing its potential,
they expanded it into a full song that truly captures their sound.
“The energy was contagious,” says Ben. “We knew right away that ‘Joy’ was special—it had that movement and vibe we both love, something that makes you want to get up and dance.”
The recording process for “Joy” spanned several weeks, whenever the duo could find time after work. Contributions from friends—including keyboard parts, backing vocals, claps, and harmonies—turned the single into a community effort that reflects Super AD‘s vision of music.
Ben describes their sound as “joyful pop” that radiates positivity. “We wanted our music to sound like a shared experience, something that brings people together,” he shares.
More info about Super AD
Raised on a farm in KwaZulu-Natal’s Midlands, Ben and Gem grew up surrounded by music, thanks to their parents’ eclectic tastes and encouragement.
Gem recalls a childhood filled with freedom and dreaming. “My head was always in the clouds,” she laughs, “while Ben was busy practicing his rockstar moves with an air guitar.”
Their sound pulls from a wide range of influences, from Coldplay and Kings of Leon to childhood favorites like Billy Joel and Andrea Bocelli. Together, they blend these inspirations into a unique sound that celebrates both connection and individuality.
For fans eager to hear more, Super AD hints at a follow-up EP in the works. “This single is just the beginning,”
says Ben. “We’re excited to keep sharing our stories, one song at a time.”
“Joy” is available now on all streaming platforms.
