Sunset Sweatshop Release New Single: “Take A Chance”

After more than a decade together, South African indie-pop favourites Sunset Sweatshop are back with a brand-new single titled “Take A Chance”. The track captures the spirit of bold decisions and the idea that sometimes the only way to truly express yourself is to leap forward and let your actions speak louder than words.

For the band, the message at the heart of the song is simple but powerful. “We wanted the track to feel bold, uplifting, and full of forward momentum,” they explain. “It’s about that feeling of standing on the edge of something and deciding to jump anyway. There’s a real sense of urgency and positivity in it, which reflects where we are as a band right now.”

Capturing the Energy in the Studio

“Take A Chance” was recorded at Sunset Studios in the scenic Hellshoogte area near Stellenbosch and produced by Fred from The Nothing Club. The collaboration brought a fresh perspective to the band’s sound while maintaining the emotional core that fans have come to expect.

“Working with Fred is always a treat,” the band shares. “He brought a fresh dynamic to the process. He really understood the energy we wanted to capture and helped us refine the sound without losing the raw emotion behind it.”

Despite their long history, Sunset Sweatshop have always approached their music with the same guiding principle: create when inspiration strikes.

“We’re always writing, always jamming, always sitting with new ideas. The creative engine never really stops. The band has always been built around authenticity, and that means we don’t force releases just to stay visible.”

Their previous release arrived in 2024 with the single “If I Got You”, and the band admits that sometimes patience is part of the creative process.

“Sometimes it takes time, and we’re okay with that. When the time is right for a release, we know it. It means it’s honest, earned, and represents exactly where we are in that moment. ‘Take A Chance’ came from that space — natural, inspired, and ready.”

Sunset Sweatshop: A Decade of Brotherhood and Music

Reaching the ten-year mark as a band is no small achievement, and the members of Sunset Sweatshop credit their longevity to a shared passion for music.

“Honestly, longevity isn’t always easy. It’s tough to keep a band together for five years, never mind ten. But the reason we’re still here comes down to one simple thing: every single member is still driven and deeply passionate about music. That fire never left.”

The band describes themselves as five very different personalities, something they now see as one of their greatest strengths.

“We’ve learned how to lean into our differences, respect each other’s spaces, and trust the process. There’s a brotherhood that’s grown over the years, and that keeps the foundation strong.”

    Looking Beyond the Horizon

While fans can expect more music in the near future, Sunset Sweatshop is taking a steady, song-by-song approach to their next chapter.

“We’d love to do a full album, but for now we’re taking it one song at a time,” they say. “The bigger goal for us is expanding our audience and performing live beyond African soil.”

Even after a decade together, the excitement that first brought the band together is still very much alive.

“Do we still get that same feeling from the early days? Absolutely. Maybe even stronger now. Because it’s not just a dream anymore – it’s something we’ve built together over a decade.”

Ten years in, and the fire is still burning for Sunset Sweatshop.
