Zimbabwean-born artist and world traveller So Kindly has unveiled his eagerly awaited single “Easy On Me”, the fourth and final track in a series he wrote and recorded in Los Angeles with award-winning producer Jon Gilbert (known for work with Mt. Joy, Flipturn, Pete Yorn, The Kills, and more).
The track delivers a warm, instrumental rush with subtle percussion, groove-heavy bass, and So Kindly’s distinctive, earthy vocals. His sound evokes the essence of legends like Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, and Paul Simon, while maintaining a contemporary radio-ready feel.
“Easy On Me” delves into the complexities of relationships, balancing a desire for stability and commitment with an urge for freedom and adventure.
So Kindly comments on the track
“It’s about navigating conflicting emotions within a relationship and the tension between personal dreams and the shared journey with a partner. It speaks to the choices we make and the sacrifices required when our goals don’t fully align.”
So Kindly crafted the song in a unique setting—a caravan parked in his parent’s driveway, which provided the solitude he needed to focus despite being in a busy family home. “It wasn’t Abbey Road, but it worked for me,” he jokes.
The song’s breakthrough moment came with the creation of a key guitar hook that tied everything together. “Once I had that hook, the rest of the song came together easily,” he recalls.
Working alongside Jon Gilbert at his Pasadena studio, So Kindly remembers the creative chemistry they shared. “I wanted the guitar hook to convey raw emotion, and Jon truly captured that in the production. He’s brilliant at turning a demo’s essence into a fully realized track.”

After signing with boutique indie label Tic Tic Bang in 2023, home to artists like Sean Koch and Samuel Miller, So Kindly is now working on a new EP set to release in Q2 of 2025. The project is being produced at Rob Burrel’s Bridgenorth Road Studio in Harare, Zimbabwe, with Keith Farquharson handling production and engineering.
