Cape Town rock ‘n roll band Skelmbosch are releasing their debut album soon. Today they released a music video for their track “Liggies In Die Stede”.
We have all been the new guy, the outside – or the lost guy. We have been pushed around, searched for something new or lost the feeling of belonging. There is a melting pot of emotions that unite us, and in itself, transcends that which tears us apart.
More info about Skelmbosch
Skelmbosch has fed from those emotions of anxiety and loneliness, and in itself, transcended that which drives us apart in the first place. “Liggies In Die Stede” is for everyone that has searched for the city lights; a familiar place, face or feeling.
The video was created by Schalk Hannekom and directed by the band’s own, Sean Schoeman. Tha camera follows the main character through the winding roads of Cape Town, past picturesque cityscapes, bursting with culture and flavour. But amidst it all he seems unfulfilled and keeps on moving until he finds a familiar face. This stripped down metaphor effortlessly captures the larger message of the track.
“The song is about man’s struggle. You feel that no one understands you all while constantly rushing off to the next big thing or place in our lives. We are essentially all looking for the big city lights.” Neill Schoeman (Skelmbosch)

I don’t know about you guys, but this video makes me want to take a trip to Cape Town right now. It’s been a while. This song is one of the better Afrikaans rock song releases that I’ve heard in 2018.
In case you were wondering: Skelmbosch will be releasing their debut album (Anargie) on the 9th of July 2018.
