Pretoria based singer-songwriter Silver Rigbie has released his brand new single “Greenwood”. Written during lockdown, the song speaks to the frustration of not being in control, and the relief of giving up that control. The melancholy instrumental delivers an air of nostalgia, while the lyrics paint a picture of frustration.
The song was recorded in his makeshift bedroom studio, and produced by Cape Town based producer Calvin Kuit. The release also features a surprise B-side “November Lights” which is driven by a synth-pop bass line and layered vocals. “Greenwood” and “November Lights” are both available on all major streaming platforms.
Silver Rigbie comments on “Greenwood”
“Greenwood was written when I was super into Bruce Springsteen, and for some reason I had that guitar melody stuck in my mind, when I started writing it the rest came pretty naturally. It was initially intended to be a happier song, but when you’re stuck alone in a flat during lockdown, it’s pretty hard to be optimistic, and so it turned out a little darker.”

I have to say that I’m curious to hear what Silver Rigbie is going to be throwing our way in 2021. “Greenwood” is a heartfelt tune and just what the doctor order on the 2nd last Monday of 2020. The B-Side (“November Lights”) is also a track that will improve your day.
