Four years since the release of their last album, Shortstraw is back with a new album set to be released in 2022, and “My Favourite Place”, released today, is the first single from the new album to kick it off. Letting fans know that the band is back and more is on its way, “My Favourite Place” is packed with everything Shortstraw fans have come to love.
“My Favourite Place” is all about the ups and downs of any relationship and how, at the end of the day, regardless of how miserable the lows may be, you wouldn’t rather be anywhere else. The single takes inspiration from the pop punk tracks the band grew up with, combined with an indie backbone, some good old denial, and a dash of blue in the face.
Shortstraw frontman Alastair Thomas comments
“We’re constantly told by social media how we’re meant to behave, or how we’re meant to live our lives. And we’re also constantly being shown how other people and couples are living their ‘best lives’, but in reality it’s all just a bunch of bullshit, innit? All we gotta do is keep on trucking because hell, that’s all we can do.”
After not having released any music since their single, “Beacon Isle” in 2019 and the band’s last album being released in 2017, they chose “My Favourite Place” as the first single because it will take fans down a familiar path and is packed with typical Shortstraw energy, catchy hooks, and the memorable lyrics fans love to sing out loud at shows.

This track is just what the doctor ordered on one of the last Friday’s of 2021. I am curious to find out what else Shortstraw have up their sleaves for us in the near future.
