Ross Learmonth Celebrates Love’s Contrasts With “Opposites”

Acclaimed South African singer-songwriter Ross Learmonth has just released his latest single, “Opposites,” now available on all major digital platforms. Ross continues to carve out a distinctive path in his solo career, delivering exceptional music, and this new release is no exception.

Ross Learmonth’s “Opposites” is both playful and deeply emotional

“The song was loosely inspired by my parents’ relationship and my own experiences with love and life,” Ross shares. “It’s not always the case, but sometimes opposites attract and bring out both the best and the worst in each other.”

With its infectious energy and catchy hooks, the song encourages listeners to embrace the idea that someone might be perfect for you in ways you least expect.

The creation of “Opposites” was as spontaneous as it was inspiring. “I often talk about songs floating around the room, and if you’re paying enough attention, you can capture them,” Ross explains. “That’s exactly how this song felt—it was in the room, waiting to be written. The lyrics came together quickly, and I’m incredibly grateful that Mark Beiling, my engineer, was there to catch it.”

The track was brought to life with the same talented team behind his recent Top 40 hits, “Honey” and “Because of You.” Rusti Rossouw and Tristan Carmichael, based in the UK, worked remotely to ensure the song resonated with authenticity.

Looking back on his solo career since 2019, Ross Learmonth reflects, “It’s been an exciting yet daunting experience. I spent most of my career building a band’s name, so transitioning to ‘Ross from Prime Circle’ wasn’t easy. But now, with an amazing team around me, I can see the brand growing, and it’s thrilling.”

“Opposites” marks another highlight in what’s shaping up to be an impressive 2025 for Ross. After electrifying performances at Kirstenbosch Gardens alongside Mafikizolo and a recent show at RMB Starlight Classics, Ross is preparing to open for The Goo Goo Dolls during their South African tour in Gauteng. “I’m SO excited for this show,” he exclaims, recalling the honor of performing with the band at a 46664 concert. “I can’t wait to take the audience on a journey—from my Prime Circle days to 2025—and especially to perform ‘Opposites’ live.”

Looking ahead, Ross Learmonth is busy working on his second studio album, expected to be released later this year or early next year. With another single set for release in May—a moodier contrast to the upbeat “Opposites”—Ross is poised to continue captivating audiences.
