Pedro Barbosa has released a brand new music video for the first single from his new, upcoming EP. The single is called “Lock Me Down”, and the EP with the same title is set for release in July 2020.
Inspired by a failed relationship, the single was written just before the South African lockdown. Based on a past relationship and the idea that you can turn the relationship around, the song keeps traveling between the minds of both partners; the first verse being the negative one and the second the positive one in the relationship.
With a slight Hip Hop influence and featuring more drive in the song – it offers a fresh and happy approach with Mark Beling at the helm of production.
Pedro Barbosa explains “Lock Me Down”
“Anyone who wants to motivate themselves and get up and going, will relate to Lock Me Down. Even though it is kind of a break-up song, it also has elements of hope so people in that frame of mind will be able to relate to it.”
For the music video, Pedro Barbosa asked fans on Facebook to send him videos of what they have been up to during the lockdown. After receiving them, he started editing them and selecting sequences. Some of the videos with dance moves ended up in perfect timing with the beat of the song, even though they were not performed to the song. The video features participation from fans all over the world, including South Africa, Mozambique, Portugal, China and Norway.
Pedro Barbosa explains the reasoning behind the “Lock Me Down” video
“Lockdown is something that is happening now and affecting all of us – it has turned everyone’s lives upside down, and I thought it would be a fun project to include some of the fans.”
Pedro’s new EP can be described as quite different from the music he has released in the past. It will feature some energetic offerings combined with some deeper songs, covering all aspects of his past releases. He also aims to make a music video for every song on the new EP. The “Lock Me Down” EP is set for release in July 2020.
