Friday the 14th of August 2020 saw the release of the Lock Me Down EP by Pedro Barbosa. The EP comes after the release of his Journey To Reborn EP in 2019, and the first single and music video from the EP for the title track, “Lock Me Down” in June 2020.
Besides the Latin Song, the EP was written and recorded over the course of three months, mainly during the South African Lockdown between April and June 2020. The Latin Song was written and recorded in 2018, and features The Barbosa Experience. Similar to his Reborn album, as well as Journey To Reborn EP, his new EP was also produced by Mark Beling. The EP also features a remix of “Crazy Love Is” done by Hugo Villanova, a DJ from Portugal.
Lockdown made us all reflect on life and the EP features ups and downs as experienced by a lot of people during this time. Lock Me Down is best described as a versatile collection of songs with a variety of subjects summarised in a kaleidoscope of music.
Pedro comments on the Lock Me Down EP
“I’m excited to release more music and this offering is a body of work very true to me. I’m very attached to a couple of the songs; there are two songs I didn’t even want to release at first, but then decided they will help someone who might have been in the same space of mind as I was.”
Pedro Barbosa really has come a long way since in met him in the early 2000s (when I was still living in a youth hostel in Sunnyside, Pretoria). He really has grown as an artist and the Lock Me Down EP is proof of that.
If you don’t believe my assessment, you can listen to the Lock Me Down EP HERE. My favourite track on the EP is “Slowly”.
