The event was held at one of Cape Town’s iconic venues, the LOOKOUT at the V&A Waterfront. Hosted by Maps Maponyane, the evening was a true reflection on how the continued support for the foundation has positively transformed over 200 under-served students every year.

The event was graced by luminaries such as Grammy award winner Skrillex and local stars, including Msaki, Shimza, Sir Vincent, DJ Loyd. Together, they formed a constellation of music industry, Cape Town City and influencers, united in their commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists.

After the glitz and glam of the red carpet, guests were guided into an unexpected meditative journey that aligned the guests to be in the moment and connected the room. This was led by Fundi Mbambani a graduate of the academy who now successfully coordinates the first-of-its-kind, after-school programme.

This plays an imperative role in the development of a younger demographic, which is vital to aid and positively contribute to their future. Guests were astounded and reminded of the South African promise, to build a more inclusive and prosperous future for not only today but for generations.

Sub Council Angus Mckenzie who came to represent the City of Cape Town mayor’s office, delivered a truly captivating speech that had the room’s full attention

“What an incredible event and evening! Witnessing Cape Town unite to support the communities in greatest need was truly inspiring. Music serves more than just entertainment—it becomes a powerful catalyst for positive change, keeping dreams and hopes alive.”

“Kudos to Bridges for music and ULTRA for their unwavering commitment to those who need it most. While centered in Langa, the Bridges for Music impact is felt as far as the music is heard and as far as the beats are felt’

Founder and CEO of Bridges for Music Valentino Barriosseta had the following to say

“Bridges for Music and ULTRA South Africa has achieved an astounding milestone by raising R1,020,760. This remarkable sum directly benefits the Bridges Academy in Langa, a beacon of opportunity for young talent from under-resourced communities.”

For the past 9 years, the GALA has served as the official kick-off to the Ultra Music Festival Weekend. Thanks to the unwavering support of attendees, the Bridges Academy has blossomed into one of the country’s most vibrant creative hubs, empowering over 200 students annually. The money raised will help to expand the current academy and continue to bridge gaps, ignite dreams, and amplify hope through music.

Board member and Bridges Academy mentor Msaki had the following to say on the night

“Bridges Academy is more than just a music academy. It’s a secure space where students can safely grow, be guided, and be heard. Bridges Academy is a sanctuary, a second home providing stability and instilling vital life skills to establish independence providing a stronger foundation for the future.”

“This remarkable achievement owes itself to the unwavering commitment of our teachers who show up day after day, many of whom make personal sacrifices for the students.”

“From every heart that has supported our mission through Bridges for Music, this will enable students to flourish and positively connect with others to achieve what was once a passing wish. In essence, we are bridging space using music alongside all other creative realms to transform lives for a brighter future.”

The Bridges Academy is a pioneering institution that provides music education and mentorship to disadvantaged communities by offering comprehensive training programs, access to resources, and opportunities for collaboration, the academy aims to uplift and empower aspiring musicians, producers, and DJs, enabling them to reach their full potential.

Through events like the Bridges for Music gala dinner and auctions, the organization continues to raise funds to expand its programs and provide even greater support to underserved communities. The generous contributions from attendees at the gala demonstrate a shared belief in the power of music to create positive change and transform lives.
