Great news music fans! Alternative rock band OTN have released “Tabula Rasa” (their debut album).
Duane Arthur (lead vocaltist of OTN) comments
“We are proud to present the culmination of years of stylistic changes, hard work and the result of six individuals’ passion for music. Drawing from our various influences, we’ve combined aggressive riffs, heart-felt lyrics, and pulse-like rhythms into a melodic journey, the zenith of which is our debut album, our clean slate, our Tabula Rasa”
OTN was formed in 2009 in Johannesburg by long playing veterans of the music industry. Ian Wishart, Gez Tha Tyrant, Darren Keogh, Tyrone Mayer, Andrew Glass and Duane Arthur are the members of the band.
Over the years they have been billed with most of South Africa’s top acts (including Prime Circle, The Parlotones and Fokofpolisiekar) and reached number 1 on Reverbnation’s Rock Chart (after they released their “Follow the White Rabbit” EP) and won the Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
OTN (Outside The New) has found their footing in their roots: Good Old Fashioned Rock and Roll. Their debut album is finally here and it seems that they have a message that they would like to put out into the world.
I’m not really familiar with OTN. That’s the main reason why I’ve been streaming “Tabula Rasa” for most of the morning and I have to say that I’m impressed. It’s been a while since I’ve heard a well-produced South African rock album. This album is not kak.
My favorite tracks on the album are “Braille”, “Jacks to Position”, “The Torrent” and the title track “Tabula Rasa”. I can best describe their sound as A Perfect Circle meeting and partying Incubus and Linkin Park.
