In August 2018 I made my way to Oppikoppi Nomakanjani. The festival was held on that legendary farm near Northam in Limpopo province.
It was my 20th Oppikoppi festival and also the last one that I attend. Their hasn’t been a festival on that farm again since that weekend.
This is what I can recall from Oppikoppi in 2018
Over the weekend I watched Wolfgang Marrow, No Comply, The George, Frame Janko, Stoker, The Black Cat Bones, Southern Wild, Satanic Dagga Orgy, Crimson House, Akkedis, Son Of Hawk, #SOZLOL, Zebra, The Barbosa Experience, Stone Jets, Dawn Brothers (from The Netherlands), Van Pletzen, Grassy Spark, Wonderboom, Crash Car Burn. Strait-Jackal, Sea Of Green, Bad Peter, Brynn, Hellcats, BLK JKS, Cockles, Fokofpolisiekar and Bed on Bricks.
I learned a lot of things that weekend, but I’ll remember that I realized that glow sticks also have the ability to enhance a rock show (during the Hellcats set). I also that this was the weekend that I found out that Steve East could be a horse racing commentator…
I snapped this photo of the campsite (with the James Philips stage in front of it) from the MTN deck at the festival and it has been selected as the Photo Of The Week on SA Music Zone.
