Today sees the release of Nothing’s Gonna Change, the new full-length album from Johannesburg based alternative rock mob Oooth. Written during lockdown by Jason Oosthuizen (vocals/guitar), the album delivers all the rock n roll swagger and punk snarl we have come to expect from the band.
Jason Oosthuizen comments on Nothing’s Gonna Change
“We are currently in such weird times, so it’s really cool for me to be able to release a new album. The songs themes are pretty much in line with the first album covering everything I feel and think, but I personally do feel there is a lot of growth from the first album till now. During the hard lockdown and even now, with musicians not being able to perform, I must say I am grateful to have had the time to write and finish this album as well as focus on all my other avenues. Every cloud certainly has a silver lining, some just more visible than others, I guess.”
Oooth released a video for their track, “Your Lies” (which is on the new album) earlier this week. The track is on my list of the most-badass rock tracks released in 2021. It’s a pity that South Africa doesn’t have a rock station that will play this track…
Jason Oosthuizen comments on “Your Lies”
“We decided to release a straight forward performance video purely as a build-up to the release of our new rock album. It was definitely still super fun to make and I must say, it’s my favourite performance video of Oooth so far. The song itself is really just a replay on the state of South Africa and after our first release in 2018 singing about similar issues, the fact of the matter is that it feels like ‘Nothing’s Gonna Change’ hence the album title”
Check out the video for “Your Lies” below:
I haven’t cranked up the rest of the album yet, but if it’s anything like this song, I’m going to end up listening to it on repeat. Oooth most likely be part of my soundtrack for 2021.
