Synth pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) revealed details of their return to the stage in October 2023 and South Africa tour dates were announced.
Across February & March 2024, OMD played 22 dates across the UK & Ireland, including their biggest ever London headline show at London’s O2 Arena on March 24th, 2024.
For April 2024, the band have confirmed South African tour dates for Cape Town and Johannesburg as part of the Greatest Hits Tour.
OMD frontman Andy McCluskey comments on the South African leg of the tour
“It’s been far too long since we played live in South Africa!, so we are really excited to be coming to do concerts in April 2024!”
The new OMD album sees the band’s most explicitly political record and the crowning achievement of their desire to be both Stockhausen and Abba – born from the impetus to kickstart new explorations during lockdown. A broad, electronic, sonic masterpiece that lyrically tackles the topics of the future, it was predominantly written, recorded, and mixed by both McCluskey & Paul Humphreys (who has recently become a second-time father).
More info about OMD
OMD have sold an astonishing 25 million singles and 15 million albums, which has established them as electronic synthesiser pioneers and one of Britain’s best-loved pop groups. Their 13 albums include reissued Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (1980), Organisation (1980), Architecture & Morality (1981) and Dazzle Ships (1983).
By rights, OMD should be in semi-retirement, performing classics like “Enola Gay” and “Maid Of Orleans” on the nostalgia festival circuit like so many peers. Instead, they’ve created a landmark album worthy of their finest work. If real life meant OMD were happy to get help, Bauhaus Staircase remains unmistakably the work of a duo who are still perfectly in sync 45 years after their first gig at legendary Liverpool club Eric’s.

Great news is that the legendary eVOID will be opening for OMD on their tour!
The ‘Taximan’, ‘Shadows’ and ‘ I Am a Fadget‘ hitmakers formed in 1977 on the East Rand of South Africa. The group consisted of Lucien Windrich (guitar and vocals), Erik Windrich (keyboards and lead vocals), Danny de Wet (drums) and Terry Andalis (bass).
Later that year, the self-deprecating “I am a Fadget” became the band’s third single, consolidating their white African punk inspired sound and striking New Romantic ‘boy band’ image.
By September 1984 the first album was riding high at the top of the charts, followed by the release of a 12 inch maxi single, “Kwela Walk” that received rave reviews.
On Saturday 12 January 1985, eVOID performed before an estimated 100,000 people at the Concert in the Park in support of ‘Operation Hunger’ along with many other top South African bands.Get ready to junk jive in the aisles because eVOID are back this April!
Update: Just Mia, Ard Matthews and 4AM will also be performing at the Johannesburg show of the OMD Tour. Gates open at 1 PM and the event finishes at 8 PM.
