Medicine Boy has announced the release of their latest album, Lower, on UK-based label Fuzz Club Records. The record arrives October 5th and will be the band’s first release since relocating to Berlin.
‘Lower is a web of introspection and interpretation. There are wider themes, stranger worlds and deeper wells than before. It is our attempt to find some kind of beauty in the underworld’ says Medicine Boy of the album.
If the two lead singles are anything to go by, this is the band at their most ambitious: ‘Water Girl’ is a glorious fuzzed-out, bone-grinding sludgefest, while the dreamlike melancholy of ‘Bottom Of The Blue’ blurs the lines between the calm and the chaotic – a spell Medicine Boy has come to cast so well. The Dream Noise duo recently debuted some of the new songs at Fuzz Club Eindhoven, where they played alongside Psych Rock royalty including The Black Angels, A Place to Bury Strangers and Spectrum, to rave reviews:
“The two-piece put on a jaw-dropping show full of atmosphere which is both ominous and meticulously-crafted. This is a true performance, as the way the two protagonists interact with one another is worth watching on its own, even without the music. Thankfully the songs are great too, with selections from the new album showing a real craft and maturity, a fullness of sound which really bodes well for the future. Their forty-five minute set flies by and is over all-too-soon. Hands down the best band of the night.” – clashmusic.com
