I’m With The Singer is the debut release and brainchild of prominent South African guitarist / songwriter Martin Schofield (WONDERboom / Martin Rocka and The Sick Shop, El Cantante).
Looking for a creative challenge during COVID lockdowns Martin Schofield formulated the idea of creating and recording new music as an uninhibited, collaborative effort.
The resulting album I’m With The Singer is an expansive, unfettered panorama featuring an impressive line-up of iconic South African musicians ranging from singer-songwriter and blues guitarist Sannie Fox, Andre Kriel (Black Cat Bones), Dirk Bisschoff (Prime Circle), Nic Rush (Watershed), lap-steel and session player Richard Bruyns, Paul Hodgson (The Parlotones), Jacques Moolman (Shadowclub) to legendary guitar hero Theo Crous (Springbok Nude Girls) and session giant Robin Gallagher.
The album was created at Martin’s home studio, with further production and mixing at Atomic Studios Johannesburg by Matthew Fink.
Martin Schofield comments
“You make music with people and the notes come after. The songs that arrived were genuine and in the moment, then mined and ‘taken to town’. Guitars were the primary instrument of inspiration and translation, but it was the idea of just making some music together that excited everyone involved, particularly during the darkest moments of COVID.”
