In a world turned emotionally upside down, Louise Carver‘s “Selfish” offers much-needed clarity. The track is taken from her Dark Secrets album.
Louise Carver comments on her new single
“With ‘Selfish’, produced by Garrick Jones (Audio Militia), I wanted to capture the dynamics of modern relationships within the context of social media. The song does not pass judgment but serves as a reflection on the realities of our current social landscape.”
“Collaborating with Garrick brought a fresh and unique pop perspective. The vision for the song was to maintain clean and intriguing percussion while highlighting an intimate and up-close vocal that gently reveals a relatable story.”
“The lyrics include words like Instagram and WhatsApp because they are very much part of our everyday vocabulary.”
“Social media has provided us with unprecedented access to the lives of others, including our ex-partners, through holiday photos or updates about their new life changes. In the past, free from platforms like Instagram and Facebook, it was easier to move on from a relationship as we had no way of accessing this personal info.”

“Selfish” explores how social media facilitates the initiation of emotional relationships by engaging in secretive messaging, driven by the notion that what your partner doesn’t know won’t hurt them.
Dial it all back to the song’s nemesis, Dark Secrets, an album five producers strong, all anchored in songwriting and arrangements that remain nothing shy of arresting.
Founded on contemporary sophistication, Dark Secrets lays bare, exposing what makes us all human, desire and being desired, all teased out in enticing melodies and contemplative lines.
Sonically, Louise Carver’s Dark Secrets explores swirls of sounds, infused with a luscious layering of synths and synth guitar, where no one dominates the other, to reveal great textures and acoustic waves – that and an intentional vocal tempo, drive each song’s meaning home.
Chic sensuality, coupled with a cheeky wink to pop sensibility, Dark Secrets pulls no punches in its intention to stimulate us all in the best possible ways. Thanks to the album’s many manifest themes, there’s something on Dark Secrets, like “Selfish”, for everyone.
Never afraid to try new things, Louise’s production boot camp with Audio Militia in realising this single and album, confirms her confident perpetual dexterity, curiosity, connection, and genuine talent to turn an audience on.
