Liam Burger Releases New Single: "When I Met You"

Great News! Cape Town based singer-songwriter, Liam Burger has released his heartful love song, ‘When I Met You’ across all digital platforms.

Liam Burger is fast becoming one of SA’s best new Singer-Songwriters and his nostalgic, but modern style of song writing has seen three of his previous singles, with the most recent ‘Take it Slow’, achieve success on radio charts around the country. ‘When I Met You’ is Liam’s latest offering and is one of the most personal songs he has ever written.

Liam Burger explains the story behind “When I Met You”

“I started writing ‘When I Met You’ in December 2019 while on holiday in Portugal. This was the first time I had ever been away from my girlfriend for a long period of time and spent a week in what I think was one of the most beautiful places in the world, Peniche.”

“Peniche was full of beauty in terms of nature, architecture and history and I was very fortunate to have my guitar with me. One afternoon, I took my guitar and went for a walk on the beach. I sat down and was taken by the beauty of the area and thought about how much better it would be if I had my girlfriend with me.”

“I sat on the beach and thought about the night that I first met her and was captured in the moment and the beautiful environment and wrote most of the song on the beach that day, but only put the final finishes to the song in January 2021. ‘When I Met You’ is a simple story about two people taking a journey through life together and how their love for each other grows,”

With the release of his single, Liam Burger also dropped a music video for the track.

“The creative thinking behind the music video for ‘When I Met You’, was to recreate the atmosphere in which I started writing the song. I was in a small coastal town in Portugal watching the sun go down with my guitar on my lap, messing around with a few chords.”

“I was taken back by the beauty of the area that I was in and this, mixed with the chords I was playing, inspired the song. It made me think of a very special lady in my life and how much I wished she could share this experience with me.”

“Clinton Dorr’s idea was to recreate the moment that the inspiration for the song struck. Location was a key factor in replicating this moment, a location full of natural beauty. The goal for the video was to keep it as simple and natural as possible, to complement the simplistic charm of the song as well as Liam as a person.”
