South African singer, songwriter and producer Jimmy Nevis has released his powerful new single “PREY” today, 26 March 2026. The release is accompanied by a striking music video, set to premiere on YouTube on Friday, 27 March.
Written in solidarity with the ongoing fight against Gender-Based Violence, “PREY” seeks to amplify the voices of women speaking out against injustice. Blending Nevis’s signature emotional songwriting with an atmospheric alternative-pop sound, the track confronts the harsh realities of violence and the culture of silence that often surrounds it.

Inspired by Nationwide Activism
The song draws inspiration from protests led by Women For Change, as well as the broader national conversation around gender-based violence. Through “PREY,” Nevis uses his platform to contribute to this critical moment, highlighting the role music can play in sparking dialogue and driving awareness.
According to Nevis, the track reflects a responsibility artists have to engage with the realities of the world around them, while ensuring that conversations about GBV remain visible and ongoing.
Jimmy Nevis ia making a Striking Visual Statement
The music video, premiering on 27 March, visually echoes protest movements across South Africa. It features a diverse group of women dressed in black, lying across a stark and symbolic space, capturing the stillness and weight of silent protest.
As Jimmy Nevis performs among them, the imagery becomes a tribute to those affected by gender-based violence, transforming the video into a moment of remembrance, resistance and collective solidarity.
Live Debut at Cape Town International Jazz Festival
“PREY” will make its live debut when Jimmy Nevis performs as a headlining act at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2026 on 28 March. The performance is set to be a powerful moment, coming just days after the song’s release.
With “PREY,” Jimmy Nevis once again demonstrates his ability to merge meaningful storytelling with contemporary sound. More than just a single, the release stands as a statement, using music not only as a form of expression but also as a tool for awareness and change.
