Jesse Clegg continues his musical evolution with the release of his latest single, “Darker Days”. This marks his first release under music label EMPIRE for distribution.
This release comes fresh after a career-defining performance at New York City’s iconic Carnegie Hall last year—and following two incredible shows in the city earlier this month.
“Darker Days” is a Moody, Cinematic Anthem
“Darker Days” is a moody, cinematic pop anthem about confronting your demons and embracing your truth.
“This song came from a place of deep introspection,” says Clegg. “It’s about accepting the darker parts of ourselves and finding strength in the vulnerability of that process. It’s definitely a new sonic space for me—edgier, more raw.”
The single was written and recorded in Los Angeles with acclaimed writer-producer Jordan Topf and long-time collaborator Nicholas Petricca (of Walk The Moon).

More info about Jesse Clegg
Jesse Clegg is a South African singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer known for his emotive lyricism, powerful vocals, and genre-blending sound. The son of legendary musician Johnny Clegg, Jesse has carved out his own path in the music industry, establishing himself as one of South Africa’s most successful contemporary artists.
Growing up in a household filled with music, Jesse was exposed to diverse sounds and influences from an early age. Despite his deep connection to music, he initially pursued a different path, studying law at the University of Witwatersrand. However, his passion for songwriting and performing eventually led him to follow in his father’s footsteps, but with a modern, alternative twist.
Jesse’s debut album, When I Wake Up (2008), and its follow-up, Life on Mars (2011), both achieved critical and commercial success in South Africa, earning multiple South African Music Award (SAMA) nominations. His 2013 album, Things Unseen, featured the hit single “Use Me”, which dominated local charts and helped solidify his place in the industry.
Looking to expand his reach, Jesse spent significant time in the U.S., where he collaborated with top producers and songwriters, including David Bottrill (Tool, Muse, Placebo). His 2016 single “Breathing”, featuring Shekhinah, was a major success, reaching platinum status in South Africa.
