After being nominated for a SAMA in 2020 for Best Alternative Album, James Deacon returns with his new single “For You”, out on June 11th through Bad Future Records. The track uncovers the ambivalence of addiction and bad habits.
James Deacon explains that “For You” is a tribute to the trials and tribulations of being addicted to nicotine
“This Song is about cigarettes! I’ve had a love hate relationship with them since I was 16 and finally managed to quit and write a song about it! Smokers will get it, non-smokers will think it’s about a girl, so I just hope both parties can put aside their differences and enjoy the track equally.”
James Deacon’s signature genre-bending style shines with his awe-inspiring musicianship in this modern day alternative classic. His soulful yet husky vocals are backed by a slickly-produced, banging beat that’s peppered by grungy guitar riffs and bold, heart tickling bass lines.
The video for “For You” was filmed with an iPhone. James joined forces with creative visionary Kyle Kemink. Kyle explains the video.
“In this gritty and upbeat video, DIY style ‘Fight Club’ meets ‘Sin City’ in representation of one’s chaotic relationship with addiction, and gradual decline in control.”
James Deacon‘s previous work has received online support from lauded tastemaker sites Complex, Record of The Day, Earmilk and CLASH, and radio support through playlisting on Passport Approved, an independent internationally syndicated tastemaker import radio show that airs on over 50 radio stations and six continents worldwide as well as the biggest radio stations in South Africa.
HBO used his single “Son Of Apollo” to soundtrack an 8-week movie promo campaign in America, and “Reason” was selected for the 2020 MIDEM discussion panel with A&R Worldwide.
