Great news for fans of local music, one of the biggest songs of late 2011 and 2012 has finally got its own music video. Yes folks, that Jack Parow and Gazelle song “Hosh Tokolosh” has finally gone visual. The song was released on the second Jack Parow album (entitled “Eksie Ou”) in late 2011. I must admit that it is one of the most catchy tunes in recent times.
I had the privilege to watch Jack Parow and Gazelle performing this song at the MK Awards ceremony (at the State Theatre) and MK Awards After Part (at Arcade Empire) in Pretoria earlier this year and I will say that this is definitely a killer live track too. This song just gets the crowd going at any party.
In case you didn’t know, “Hosh Tokolosh” became the first Afrikaans song EVER to reach the number 1 spot of 5FM a few months ago. Almost every station in South Africa has picked it up. I’m pretty sure every one in South Africa knows who Jack Parow and Gazelle are because of this song.
Jack Parow has certainly come a long way since he burst onto the SA Music scene in late 2009. He’s played in the Netherlands and he’s even going to Moscow next week. And besides all the stardom, he became a dad recently too. The question is, what will he doing next?
The video for “Hosh Tokolosh” was directed by renowned visual designer Louis Minnaar (who is a member of Bittereinder and who has also done videos for numerous artists in South Africa, including Van Coke Kartel and Die Heuwels Fantasties). The Tokolosh in the video played by MJ du Preez (Of Dokrine fame). Like most videos by Louis Minnaar, this one is a visual masterpiece.
