Fulka are a South African band based in Pretoria. Some of you reading this article might think that South African music is boring and uninteresting, but you should really think again. This band is proof of this.
Ola Kobak, Jacob Israel, Corne Roodt, Christian Henn and Jean-Louise Nel are the members of the band. The Mystery of Seven Stars is their Poland-inspired debut album (which is available online on Bandcamp.
The album “should satisfy both electronica enthusiasts and folk aficionados alike or even just those stumbling on the road less travelled”. (according to Fulka’s Facebook Fan page).
I have not seen Fulka live, but I really want to and I’m thinking that they could be one of the up and coming bands in the South African music scene this year.
Fulka are scheduled to play at Stones in Centurion as part of the Frankie Fire music video launch party (which will also feature the December Streets as well) and will take place on the 12th of April.
They will also be playing at Arcade Fire (the old Foundry Fly Lounge) in Pretoria on the 15th of April (with SA music.
This is Fulka‘s music video for “Dancing In Our Darkest Days”
This song has been well received by Tuks FM listeners in the capital city and has already reached number 1 on the Tuks FM Most Wanted chart. I think this song is absolutely awesome. I don’t think I’ll ever grow tired of it. The music video was directed by Louis Minnaar (of Bittereinder fame).
