December Streets Release New Single: “The Good Life”

For more than a decade, December Streets have been a defining presence in the South African music scene. Known for chart-topping hits like “Santa Fe”, “Magic”, “Wild Heart”, “Kick Start”, and their biggest single to date, “Last Forever”, the band built their reputation on infectious melodies, massive hooks, and energetic live performances.

Now the band is entering a new chapter with their latest single, “The Good Life”, a track that still carries the feel-good spirit fans love but reveals a deeper, more reflective side of the group.

A Decade of Growth and Reflection

According to lead singer Tristan Coetzee, the song grew out of a moment of reflection after years spent chasing dreams on stages across the country and beyond.

“The Good Life was born out of reflection,” he explains. “Over the past decade, we’ve chased big dreams, played big stages, made mistakes, grown up, fallen in love, lost things, gained things, and somewhere in all of that, we started asking ourselves what ‘the good life’ actually means.”

The band approached the creative process with complete honesty. If a lyric or idea didn’t feel authentic, it simply didn’t make the cut.

December Streets are staying true to what matters

Despite their success, December Streets say their focus has never been on chasing charts, fame, or numbers. For them, music has always been about connection.

“It’s the people you build with,” says Coetzee. “It’s the quiet moments that feel bigger than the loud ones.”

That mindset has guided the band since the beginning. Rather than following trends, they have consistently focused on their curiosity and love for music.

“We’ve never chased trends or tried to replicate whatever’s working. We’re too curious, too restless; probably too ADHD for that.”

A New Album and Tour on the Horizon

“The Good Life” offers a glimpse into what fans can expect from December Streets’ upcoming album, which is scheduled for release in October 2026. The band plans to follow the release with a nationwide tour that will feature both their classic crowd favourites and their evolving new sound.

While live performances remain a huge part of the band’s identity, songwriting continues to be their biggest passion.

“Performing live is something we’ll always love, but songwriting is our real obsession. Translating lived experiences into something people can feel – that’s the magic for us.”

For the new project, the band once again teamed up with long-time producer Dolf (Rudolph Willemse). They also brought in Josh Berry from Honeymoan, whose fresh perspective added a new creative dynamic to the process.

“He challenged us in the best way,” Coetzee says.

A Defining Moment for the Band

With the album release approaching, the band believes the upcoming project could mark one of the most important moments in their career.

“This album is going to be one of the proudest moments of our lives,” they say.

For December Streets, the journey forward is about staying true to their vision and continuing to evolve without losing the heart of what made fans connect with them in the first place.

“This isn’t a reinvention for the sake of it,” Coetzee explains. “It’s just us arriving at ourselves.”
