On the 20th of April 2024, I made my way to Marks Park in Emmerentia, Johannesburg to watch and photograph OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) and a few other artists.

    More info about OMD

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) are an English electronic band that have been around for more than four decades.

To date the band have released 14 studio albums: Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark</em (1980),   Organisation (1980), Architecture & Morality (1981), Dazzle Ships (1983), Junk Culture (1984), Crush (1985), The Pacific Age (1986), Sugar Tax (1991),  Liberator (1993), Universal (1996), History of Modern (2010), English Electric (2013), The Punishment of Luxury (2017) and Bauhaus Staircase (2023).

The current members of the band are Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Martin Cooper and Stuart Kershaw.

My 2 cents on OMD‘s performance at Marks Park

The band made their way on the stage at 6:30 PM sharp and I was blown away from the get-go. OMD played a mixed bag of hits from the late 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

One of the highlights of the show was to experience “Maid Or Orleans” live. It was also great singing along to tracks like “If You Leave” and “Forever Live & Die” (tracks that I listened to on repeat in the mid 1980s).

It was great having them back in South Africa and I hope they come back soon. The last time they performed in our beautiful country was 12 years ago.

I snapped this photo of Andy McCluskey during their set and it has been selected as the Photo Of The Week on SA Music Zone.

Kudos to Breakout Events for bringing them back to SA.
