This week’s photo of the week features South African Blues Rock Legend Albert Frost. He was one of the artists who performed at Mieliepop in 2016.
More info about Albert Frost
Albert Frost, a SAMA award-winning musician, has captivated global audiences for two decades with his dynamic performances. Recognized as the “dark prince of South African blues” by Rolling Stone, Frost is acclaimed for his versatile guitar skills on both acoustic and electric instruments, seamlessly switching between rhythm and lead. His deep passion for the Blues was cultivated through his association with the renowned group, Blues Broers, since the age of 17.
In 2000, Frost became one of the first Fender endorsees in South Africa, establishing a lasting partnership. His third solo album, The Wake Up, released in 2016, won the Best Rock Album title at the 2017 South African Music Awards. Notable achievements include successful performances at the 2017 Klein Karoo National Arts Festival and nominations for Kanna and kykNET Fiëstas awards in 2018.
Albert Frost has supported and toured with iconic acts like Simple Minds, REM, Ali Farka Touré, and The Rolling Stones. His presence has graced esteemed festivals such as Oppikoppi, The Isle Of Wight, and Hard Rock Calling throughout his illustrious career.
I can’t remember his Mieliepop 2016 set in detail, but I do remember enjoying myself immensely. Check out the photo that I snapped below. The guy with the long hair (behind the drums) is Jason Hinch (Boargazm, The Black Cat Bones).
The next edition of Mieliepop is happening from the 7th to the 9th of March 2024 at Tolderia Resort (near Lothair in Mpumalanga province). Get more info HERE.
