Lonehill Estate, who formed in 2005, made star status after the release of their hit single ‘Technoband’ which received high chart status on commercial radio stations such as 5FM. This was followed by the most recent single ‘Daans’ which saw them reaching number 1, after only 13 weeks on the playlist. The song has received over 320 plays to date on 5FM alone.
They are one of the most active touring bands and after some interest from international agency A&R Worldwide, they have been offered the opportunity to perform at the esteemed music conference Musexpo in Los Angeles this April. The band looks forward to this opportunity of sharing their music with the rest of the world.
We heard you’ll be going to LA in April to perform at Musexpo. Tell us a little more about this music conference?
Musexpo is hosted and run by A&R Worldwide, they are an artist discovery and development company that hooks up artists with record companies, license deals and they also help plug tracks for radio play. They’ve done some insane work for the likes of Muse, Keane, and Lady Gaga. Musexpo is one of their platforms for exposing artists to top industry insiders, past Musexpo showcase artists have included Katy Perry, LMFAO, Jessie J and The Temper Trap..
How did you manage to land the gig?
A&R Worldwide discovered us via 5fm’s website, they noticed our breakthrough titles Gangstar and Techno Band, checked out the vids on Youtube and then contacted our agents.
You’ll also be performing at Viper Room? Possibility of running into some ghosts?
Yes, River Phoenix skyped us from beyond the grave, he asked us to bring 5 Roses tea.
Do you think your success in the states will require you to step it up a notch?
Our little bits of US airplay are like drops in the ocean, so we’re not really successful there yet. We have however upped our game as you never know who will be in the audience at the expo or what they’ll see in us.
What has the response from fans been like?
Great! Our fans have been really supportive of us since the news broke.
Do you think LA can handle the force that is Lonehill Estate?
Actually I’m not sure, Americans have a different sense of humour from us, so all we can hope for is that we can connect on their level as wit is such a strong element of our show here at home.
What do you hope to achieve from the LA trip?
We’re hoping to expand our contacts and experience, anything beyond that is out of our hands, a sync deal would be sweet, as would any license deals for our album, for which there has been some interest from Germany and Japan.
We also heard you releasing a full length album, when can it be expected?
Around the end of March, beginning of April. Our original intent was just to release everything we were ever going to do digitally, but people have been begging us for an album, so this one will include our recent hit singles and some great new tracks we are sure will be hits in the near future.
Your shows a filled with hilarious anecdotes and satirical remarks. Does this reflect who you are as individuals?
Yes
Any chance of getting some footage from the states when you return?
Yeah, we’re taking a camera and we’ll be shooting as much as we can.
